British driver Jolyon Palmer has said that he hasn't given up on securing a role in Formula 1 this year, with test roles still available.
The GP2 champion had initially hoped that he would be able to earn a race seat, but two race teams have collapsed and those who have survived are under more financial pressure.
Palmer hopes that he can secure a reserve role for this season so that he can be ready to progress to a race seat in the following year.
Speaking at the AUTOSPORT International Show, he said: “As GP2 champion, I am not ready to give up on the F1 dream just yet.
“I think there is going to be some opportunity in the future. For this year it is not going to happen because there are 18 cars and 18 drivers already in them.
“So now we have to focus on the next best thing and that is working with an F1 team and trying to get some mileage in a car and prepare myself for 2016.”
Palmer admitted that it is frustrating for him to see Felipe Nasr and Raffaele Marcionne, who he beat in the GP2 series, get roles in F1.
