Report: Marussia to be bought by Justin King
Former Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King is one of a group of investors looking to buy Marussia, according to reports.
The team entered administration in October, and their F1 future looked bleak as no new investment was forthcoming.
However, reports this morning suggest that a consortium is in talks to buy the stricken team and Sky News reports that King is part of the deal, along with team principle John Booth and chief executive Graeme Lowdon.
Talks remain ongoing, but it is not guaranteed to be successful.
If the consortium buys the team and takes them out of administration, then it is likely that they would be called Manor Grand Prix.
It is thought that they would use last year’s car in 2015, but they would face a fight to hire staff and drivers in time for the first race in Australia, in six weeks’ time.
King’s son, Jordan, is one of Britain’s most highly-rated young drivers and will compete in GP2 this season.
