Serious doubts have emerged over whether Force India will be ready to start the new season, after they confirmed that their new car will not be ready for the second test next week.

The team will run last season’s car in Barcelona, while they didn’t even attend the first test in Jerez two weeks ago.

The third, and final, test starts just a few days after the second one ends, and it is crucial that the team get their car ready for then. However, that is also in jeopardy.

Force India’s problems are one of the surprises of the winter so far, and with no explanation from the team for their absence, there are rumours that they have serious financial problems.

However, they still maintain that they will be racing in Melbourne in a month’s time.

Deputy team principle Bob Fernley told AUTOSPORT: “We will be in Melbourne for the start of the season, there’s no doubt about that.

“Yes, testing time with the new car will have been limited, but we are doing everything possible to make sure we arrive in Australia in reasonable shape and with as many miles on the car as possible.”
