Lewis Hamilton was in a class of his own, as he strolled to victory in the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park today in the first race of the 2015 season.

The Mercedes driver finished only a handful of seconds clear of his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, but whenever the German got close, Hamilton put his foot down and drove away.

Sebastian Vettel came third for Ferrari, after he got the better of Felipe Massa. The Italian team are clearly the second fastest car on the grid, and have made great strides over the winter.

His team-mate, Kimi Raikkonen, would have finished fifth, but he retired after a pit-stop problem.

The new season got off to an underwhelming start, as Daniil Kvyat and Kevin Magnussen broke down on their way to the grid.

With Valtteri Bottas already ruled out with a back injury, it meant that there were just 15 starters.

This quickly went down to 13, as Lotus pair Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean retired.

Maldonado was pushed into a wall, and Grosjean suffered a mechanical issue on the opening lap.

Red Bull suffered a poor race, as Daniel Ricciardo lacked the pace to get past the Sauber of Felipe Nasr.

The Aussie could only manage sixth, while Nasr eased home in fifth on his debut.

Carlos Sainz also scored points on his F1 debut, as he came ninth for Toro Rosso, but Max Verstappen retired with an engine blow up.

Jenson Button completed the race for McLaren, but he finished 11th, and last.
