Fernando Alonso's mandatory medical tests on Sunday will take place at the famous English university Cambridge, multiple British newspapers report.

The Telegraph, Observer and Daily Mail said that as the McLaren-Honda driver bids to return to the cockpit in Malaysia next weekend, he will first have to satisfy three doctors appointed by the governing FIA.

That will clear Alonso, 33, to at least travel to the Malaysian grand prix early this week, now more than a month after his mysterious Barcelona testing crash and hospitalisation.

Once in Kuala Lumpur, he will then have to sit with FIA doctor Jean-Charles Piette for his so-called 'impact test', in which Alonso's current cognitive skills and reactions are compared with his earlier 'control' results.

The newspapers also said Alonso will have to be green-lighted by the Sepang circuit's own doctor.

On Saturday, Alonso's manager Luis Garcia-Abad told Spanish media: "Fernando will be in Malaysia."

His representative also told the AS sports newspaper: "Fernando is well and he will pass the tests for sure, it is a mere formality."
