Sebastian Vettel has said that Ferrari is still behind Mercedes despite his impressive win in Malaysia two weeks ago.

The German used the extreme heat to his advantage to beat Lewis Hamilton, sparking talk of a title challenge this season.

However, Vettel has played down their chances of repeating their success in the cooler conditions of China on Sunday, and said that their form will fluctuate over the new few races.

He said: "We are realistic about where we are - targets haven't changed. But Mercedes is in a strong position.

"The pace was for real two weeks ago; Mercedes didn't back off. But there were circumstances coming together.

"For here and for the next races, things can be up and down. We want to ensure that there is more up than down.

"We did a great job in Malaysia, but we have to be realistic. We need to establish we are the team right behind Mercedes and to ensure that the gap gets closer and closer to them."
