Nico Rosberg has admitted that he made a major error in qualifying which resulted in him finishing third ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Rosberg will line up behind his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel this afternoon and the German has said that his grid position is not ideal.

He told reporters: "Strategy wise I got it wrong. I was thinking too much about the race and I under-estimated Sebastian's speed. I took it easy in Q2 to save the race tyres, so I lacked the rhythm for Q3. That's where I went wrong today. Being third is not ideal."

Rosberg is under pressure to perform in the race after a disappointing start to the season, where he has failed to win a race so far.

He trails Hamilton by 19 points in the Drivers’ Championship, and also sits behind Vettel in third place.
