Nico Rosberg finally won a race, a so much needed one enough to get close to Hamilton in the title battle. He managed to halt Hamilton’s momentum and beat him for the first time this season in both the qualifying and race day. Vettel was probably the most disappointed driver there, because he is getting farther from the title contest.

With the Spanish grand prix away, there is no doubt that Rosberg can’t wait to eliminate the 20 points difference with Hamilton at the next race in Monaco so that he can take the lead on the 2015 Driver Standings. Before Barcelona Rosberg was behind 27 points and was rapidly sinking into a battle for the second place with Vettel.

The entire weekend Rosberg had an edge over Hamilton. As soon as he set out on the track on Friday morning, he had better performance and set-up. Nigel Mansell was right when he said prior to the race that Rosberg will have his “pivotal” performance this season on which he will base the narrowing of the point gap between him and Hamilton.

Toto Wolff

Toto Wolff

Toto Wolff, the Mercedes F1 team boss claims that both drivers are mentally strong. Even after a defeat or bad weekend both Hamilton and Rosberg are able to come out strong and focus on the next race. It is very difficult to find a pro or con against both drivers.

Last year they have been shifting the momentum interchangeably towards themselves so many times and there is no doubt that we are going to see the same again this season. They are both competitive and trying to out-perform each other. Wolff enjoys it because that way the whole team benefits and gets uplifted.

At Barcelona Hamilton was told to hold his position in the final laps of the race but he wouldn’t listen to the team’s orders and pressed hard on Rosberg. At 7 laps before the end of the race Rosberg was 13 seconds ahead of Hamilton, but Hamilton was nearing Rosberg only 0.7 seconds per lap. After that he realized that his efforts will be fruitless, so he backed off and took the smarter approach. However, he said he will never again allow to be told to hold position.

Anyway, Mercedes had an impressive performance in Barcelona. Sports bettors will have some exciting Formula 1 betting opportunities throughout the season without a doubt. If you are into Formula 1 betting, here you can find reviews of major international sports betting sites.

The next race will be held in Monaco. For some the Monaco races are some of the most boring, while some enjoy seeing how the pit-stop crews will perform. The drivers enjoy them more than the fans without a doubt. The Monaco circuit is a combination of technical excellence, precision driving and sheer bravery, and if you don’t possess any of these, you cannot expect to come close to the first 5 positions, let alone win it.

It seems that the 2015 season will be a very hot one by what we have seen so far. Even though the last race is in November, we are sure that fans of Formula 1 will not wait and grab the chance to win complementary tickets to the season ending Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.
