Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has warned his team that they can’t become complacent in the championship battle after Sebastian Vettel’s win in Hungary.

Vettel barged past Lewis Hamilton to take an early lead, and he stormed away at the front before negotiating a tough last 20 laps to claim his second win of the season.

Vettel is now just 42 points behind Hamilton in the standings, and Wolff is convinced that Vettel is a title contender.

He told reporters: "We just need to be careful. We're 42 points ahead in the drivers' championship, but you can see how quickly it goes when you have a bad day and the car doesn't score good points - boom! You go backwards.

"That is the mentality we have anyway, of always being a bit sceptical about how we are doing, and we received further proof in this race."

The next race is in Belgium in three weeks.
