Nico Rosberg has claimed that his poor start cost him the chance of victory in yesterday’s Belgian Grand Prix.
The German, who lined up second alongside Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton, got bogged down at the start of the race and was swamped by other drives.
He eventually emerged in fifth, by which point Hamilton was already building a lead at the front of the race.
He told reporters: "I completely messed up the start, which was very annoying. The start was really bad so I need to practice that a bit more.
"When I had clear air in the front, I chased Lewis, I was always coming close, apart from one phase in the second stint when he pulled away. I tried to hunt Lewis down but it wasn't enough."
Rosberg clawed his way back up to second through the race, but couldn’t put pressure on Hamilton, who eased to yet another win this season.
He now leads Rosberg by 28 points in the drivers’ standings.
