Jolyon Palmer has admitted that his F1 career will be over if he fails to secure a drive for next season.
The British racer is currently reserve driver at Lotus, where he has filled in for Romain Grosjean on several Friday’s.
However, Grosjean is moving to new team Haas F1 next season, leaving a space alongside Pastor Maldonado at Lotus, which is set to be taken over by Renault.
Palmer is in the frame to get it, but warned that he will have to pursue other things if he fails to be promoted.
He told AUTOSPORT: "I would say it is probably racing or nothing.
"I'm enjoying what I'm doing. Having not been in F1 before, to drive the car as often as I have has been great, and to be involved in a team you learn a lot.
"But having done one year of it, I feel I wouldn't be learning a huge amount by doing another year doing the same thing with the same team.
"I'm flat out for racing next year. There's a chance. It just depends on the outcome of a lot of things."
Palmer is still to make his competitive F1 debut.
