Warwick's first F1 race was with the Toleman team in the 1981 San Marino Grand Prix, where he finished in 16th position. In 1982, he joined the Fittipaldi team, scoring his first point in the United States Grand Prix West, and continued to impress the motorsports world by achieving his first podium finish with Renault in the 1984 Dallas Grand Prix.
In 1986, Warwick was offered the chance to drive for the Williams team, the most successful team in F1 history at that time. It was in this period that Warwick's true racing ability shone through, with him achieving his best result of the season, a third-place finish in the Australian Grand Prix.
In 1987, Warwick signed with the Arrows team and scored two podiums, including a memorable second-place finish at the British Grand Prix, just behind Nigel Mansell. He continued to drive with Arrows until the end of the 1990 season before moving to the Lotus team for his final F1 season in 1993.
After his retirement from Formula One, Warwick became the president of the British Racing Drivers' Club and played an important role in the development of the Silverstone Circuit. He also became a regular commentator and expert analyst for Sky Sports F1.
Derek Warwick's F1 career was not only defined by his impressive driving skills but also by his immense sportsmanship, dedication, and passion for racing. He was a fan favorite for his humility and straightforwardness, which earned him respect and admiration from the motorsports world.
