Franco Colapinto's motorsport journey began at just nine years old when he first got behind the wheel of a kart. A prodigious talent, he quickly rose through the ranks, clinching the Argentinian Championship titles in both 2016 and 2018. That same year, Franco took his first steps into European single-seater racing, making an immediate impact by winning a race and securing a second-place finish in his debut at the final round of the FIA Spanish F4 season. His impressive performance caught the eye of Fernando Alonso's FA Racing by Drivex, leading to a signing for the 2019 season.
The 2019 season proved to be a breakout year for Franco, where he dominated the Spanish F4 Championship with eleven victories, 13 podiums, and ten pole positions, ultimately earning the championship title. He carried this momentum into 2020, securing the rookie championship title in the Castrol Toyota Racing Series with another race win, a pole position, and eight additional podiums.
Franco continued to build on his success by returning to Europe for the Formula Renault Eurocup with MP Motorsport in the latter half of 2020. There, he notched two race wins and nine podiums, finishing third overall as the highest-ranked rookie. The following year, Franco competed in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine with MP Motorsport, achieving two Grand Slams, another victory, and a podium finish.
In 2022, Franco made the leap to FIA F3 with Van Amersfoort Racing, chasing his dream of reaching Formula 1. He wasted no time making an impression, securing pole position in his first-ever FIA F3 Qualifying and finishing his rookie season with two race wins and five podiums.
January 2023 marked another milestone in Franco's career as he joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy. Competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, he delivered a strong sophomore season, winning two sprint races at Silverstone and Monza, and finishing fourth overall in the standings. In October 2023, it was announced that Franco would step up to FIA Formula 2 with MP Motorsport for the 2024 season. He made his F2 debut at the final round of the 2023 season in Abu Dhabi, laying a solid foundation for the next stage of his career.
Franco’s rapid ascent reached new heights in 2024 when it was revealed that he would race with Williams in Formula 1 from the Italian Grand Prix onward, becoming the 49th driver to compete for Williams Racing. He also became the first Argentine driver in F1 in 23 years and only the second Argentine to drive for Williams, following in the footsteps of Carlos Reutemann.
