The 2016 F1 season will finish in December, which would make it the longest season in the sport’s history.

With a record 21 races scheduled for next year, F1 needs to extend its season and Bernie Ecclestone has said that it will run from April until December.

The Malaysian Grand Prix will move from its scheduled September spot to December, to avoid its back-to-back date with Singapore.

Ecclestone said: "We're putting Malaysia later on, into December, away from Singapore. The Malaysians were happy, but the Singaporeans weren't, so we decided to look into it.

"At this stage I don't think we'll need to change anything else."

The season is due to start in April at Albert Park, Australia. The European Grand Prix will also return, as new hosts Azerbaijan join the calendar.
