Sep.29 - Miami's formula one plans are in tatters.

Earlier, Liberty Media had targeted a street race on the South Florida coast, but those plans were delayed until 2020.

"We aim to run the first Miami grand prix in 2020," F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches said in July.

But now a dark cloud is hanging over those plans as well.

Germany's DPA news agency reports that the Miami City Commission "voted unanimously" to "indefinitely" delay the F1 race contract negotiations.

"According to media reports, this does not mean the Miami plans are at the end," the media report noted.

STOP!! Do not do another rubbish street course, that is a crappy American view of racing, it is not in F1. I know there are street course, Adelaide for instance, and any one who watches, and participates hates them. Monaco is done - out of date and time. I want F1 here, I live in Boca, so having an F1 race in Miami would be awesome, it has to be done, but BUILD A COURSE worthy of it. The GP of America in Austin is a marvel, brilliant course, follow their lead.

Florida is as flat as you can get. The downtown street course at least had the bridge to the port island. The only other place you're going to get a race with elevation changes is if you hold it on the banked track at Homestead, and we remember what happened when the race at Indianapolis lost three-quarters of the field because the tyres weren't made for that sort of track. And the infield course at Homestead only incorporates the relatively flat back straight and the start-finish straight anyway-- the "roval" course uses NASCAR turns 3 and 4, which might make for some really hairy white-knuckle racing, but I can't see F1 using THAT layout, can you?

Shame really, since a city like Miami could use a big international event like F1, but a purpose-built track isn't on the cards.
