Fernando Alonso has said that a decision on his future will be “finalised soon” but he has not been given a deadline by McLaren.
Alonso is widely expected to re-join McLaren in place of Jenson Button but rumours suggesting that he had been given a deadline to announce his plans are wide of the mark.
Alonso will leave Ferrari at the end of the season to be replaced by Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
“I don’t think there is a deadline to do anything. One week it’s McLaren saying something. Last week it was Lotus, (Gerard) Lopez saying he was in talks with me for the future- which is true but not for Formula 1, for another project that we may have together”, he told reporters.
“Every day is a rumour. Even today I read that I bought Marussia for $1, which is absolutely no truth. It’s the same thing always but the most important, as I said in Japan, two or three months ago I took a decision, I followed that decision in that direction and hopefully you will know soon.”
