Fernando Alonso does not subscribe to the view that the new qualifying rules will have an effect on the results ahead of the 2016 season.

The new rules will mean one driver is eliminated every 90 seconds after six minutes of each session, leaving two drivers to fight it out at the end.

The hope is that it will make F1 more exciting, but Alonso believes that the quality of drivers on the gird is so high they will not be caught out.

"We have so many talented people, so many clever people, they will understand perfectly the rules and we will all do the same,” the McLaren driver said.

"There will be one exact mathematic formula to do the right thing, so I don't think there will be any adaptation time.

"For the drivers I don't think it will change much, we will do very fast laps when it's time to do it."

The new season begins in Australia on Sunday.
