Fernando Alonso has ruled out switching to Formula E.

The Spaniard announced at Sochi that, despite earlier not ruling out a return to F1 in the future, his time in the category "is over".

Alonso's next step is unknown.

It is believed he will definitely contest the Indy 500 in order to complete the 'triple crown', but also being considered is the full Indycar season.

"We'll see," the 37-year-old said in Russia.

"I've said many times that I want to be the best driver in the world."

Recently, Formula E boss Alejandro Agag said he was targeting Alonso, but the McLaren driver says he is not interested for now.

"It's a relatively new series where a tradition iN prestigious races has not yet developed," Alonso said. "But who knows about the future?

"I'm not racing just for fun, so I will make decisions based on what kinds of races I am interested in to become a better driver and person and try to leave a mark on the history of motor racing," he added.

A really gifted driver that seemingly has made some poor (or just unlucky) decisions, together with perhaps a difficult personality that have limited his ultimate potential in F1. He's looking to his legacy when I can't help but think he'd be better off just enjoying his life and being proud of what he's achieved.

"I've said many times that I want to be the best driver in the world." Oh well! By then he probably has earned enough prise, contract, and sponsorship money to buy the votes to be declared so!

Okay, so "that I want to be the best racing driver in the world" is someone who constantly "hang" on the radio and complain over the car and everyone else who has something with either the team, the car or the race to do, and constantly complain over about everyone and everything, and does make himself very unpopular with his fellow drivers, former team etc., etc., etc.....

so if any- or every- thing of this has anything to do with being "the best racing driver in the world" then he is well on his way to achieving his goals. Special in his later years in Formula One, because he wasn't like that in his first years with Minardi and Renault, So in my opinion, it started around his first time with McLaren, and Second Time at Renault, and the gotten worse ever since then, and which also would be one of the reasons why one who is as "fast" as him, can't get a "top" car at either Red Bull, Mercedes, or Ferrari, in his last years in Formula One.

but remember, all this is only my opinion....
