Mark Webber has said that the ‘angle of impact’ saved him from suffering a serious injury, after a crash in Brazil on Sunday.
The ex-F1 driver, who now competes in the World Endurance Championship, spent the night in hospital after a crash at the last corner in Sao Paolo.
No serious harm was done to the Australian and he and later tweeted: “I was a lucky boy. The correct angle of impact saved me. Thanks everybody for your incredible messages and support.”
Webber raised his arm and signalled he was alright while being stretchered into an ambulance, and has since said he is badly bruised and suffering from a headache.
The 38-year-old raced in F1 for 13 seasons and won nine races. He left Red Bull last season to take up a new challenge and hopes to continue racing in World Endurance next season.
