Aug.9 - Formula 1 is considering banning the use of car's DRS rear wing systems during qualifying, according to Auto Motor und Sport.

It would be a controversial move for the sport, as it may be interpreted as a way to soften Red Bull and Max Verstappen's dominance, at least over a lap.

"Max isn't hurting anything," Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur told Italy's Autosprint. "He's just doing a fantastic job - better than the others - with his team.

"We can't complain about his dominance."

Mercedes' chief technical officer Mike Elliot, however, says it's "unbelievable how much time Red Bull wins" every time the DRS flap is triggered.

Red Bull's technical chief Pierre Wache denies anything "magic" is going on.

"It doesn't open more than other teams or anything like that," he told L'Equipe. "It just goes back quite simply to the concept of our car.

"When our wing is closed, we don't have too much drag, and when the driver opens it up, he gains much more speed. Our strength is purely aerodynamic," Wache insists.

You can't go changing the rules during the season , that is not fair.
F1 is about producing the best and if 1 team does it better so be it.
Change between seasons if you must but not during the season.

    Rumours inspired by journalists!
If there is any substance in it, that would be detrimental to the whole essence of F1, which is supposed to be the epitome of development, the test bed for motor cars.
If it is targeted at Red Bull, to reduce their dominance, they need to look at the results in qualifying for the #2 Red Bull car. Max and Adrian are the secret ingredients to the Red Bull superiority, with or without DRS.

smokey, your post is in the running for best of the break. Right this minute, RB has no weaknesses at any level. Forget the 2023 WCC/WDC. The second half fun is watching 2-5.

Let's face it, at the moment if every car was exactly the same Max would still win the majority of the races.

I've never particularly liked the guy but he's the best driver out there right now and he makes a huge difference to the car, just like people like Schumacher, Senna and Prost did.

He may even win putting him in the Mclaren, Ferrari or Merc. He's at another level at the moment. Even if he is sometimes still an arrogant arse.

We should not underestimate the advantage a faster car gives. 2021 was a rare season when Mer and RB were very evenly matched. Previously Mer had a better handling car, now RB has a big drs and small handling and pit crew advantage.
A great car gives its driver a big advantage in confidence regardless of make or driver and makes him look good and this should not be overlooked. A poor car does the opposite so the performance gap is magnified. Let’s hope the other teams can catch up next year.

Regardless of who has the best car there should at least be a battle between the two drivers with that best car, Perez is just not good enough to provide a half decent entertaining season. If only they got Oscar or Leclerc.
