Aug.25 - Ross Brawn says formula one is not going to switch to a two-day race weekend format.

As the calendar continues to expand, one idea under consideration has been dropping Friday practice day altogether.

But Liberty Media's F1 sporting director Ross Brawn declared: "We have come to the conclusion that three days is simply better.

"It's in the interest of the organisers and the TV stations and we owe it to the fans," he said.

"Now the question is how to organise the three days most cleverly," added Brawn.

The Briton said tweaks to the points system are still possible. "Points down to 15th could be a solution, but we don't want to change too much," said Brawn.

The same is true for the qualifying session, but Brawn explained: "We have to be careful about that. Today's qualifying format is successful and popular."

2 F1 Fan comments on “Brawn: No Two-day race weekend format

The continuous thinking about changing F1 formats is annoying. F1 is the pinnacle of motor sport and is probably as good as it has ever been having watched it in varying forms from the 60s and attending a few races both at home and abroad although that has some challenges from down under. The points down to 10th is fine and going any lower is not appropriate. It is like giving the child a ribbon if it does not win at school just to make it feel good. The challenge needs to be there to perform. The three day format is fine as one whose family faithfully watches every practice, qualifying and race, even rearranging our travel so we can be home to do so, as broadcasts are difficult to find everywhere. By watching all events and having the five sessions to learn and be informed of as much of the F1 world as broadcasters give us is part of the attraction to the three day event. Trolling websites for information compliments this but the three day event sums it all up and into perspective. Under no circumstances undermine the technical excellence of F1 as this makes it stand out above other classes.
