Jenson Button has admitted that McLaren are still some way off from having the ideal set-up, with only one full day left of testing.
The British team look to have built a better car for the 2016 season, which starts in Australia later this month.
But Button says they have focused on aerodynamic work so far, and need to run well today and tomorrow to feel ready for the race in Melbourne.
"I don't feel we've really done any proper testing with the car yet, in terms of set-up work, he said.
"It's been mostly aero work, and understanding if we're in the right place or not.
"There hasn't been any specific driver set-up work.
"The next two days are very important for us to fine-tune the car and find a balance that really works.
"We're not there yet, we need two really good days to feel ready for Melbourne."
McLaren had a woeful season last year and finished ninth in the Constructors’ Championship.
