Aug.11 - Jan Lammers says Dutch fans should refrain from booing Lewis Hamilton once Formula 1 touches down at Zandvoort early next month.

In Hungary, a race attended by many of Max Verstappen's Dutch fans, the crowd registered its displeasure with Hamilton by booing and jeering his pole position.

Lammers, a Dutch former F1 driver and boss of the country's grand prix, urges the up to 105,000-strong crowd at Zandvoort to be more respectful.

"If Hamilton comes to the Netherlands for the grand prix, please make sure he is treated with respect instead of this vulgar booing," he told De Telegraaf.

"Show your decency when a seven time world champion comes here. We should be proud of that. It is downright antisocial and unwise to yell 'boo'.

"Respect is something you have to show if you want to get it for yourself," Lammers added.

"As motorsport enthusiasts, we have to show that we handle this situation in a better way. Make sure that other people don't have to be ashamed."

The booing followed hot on the heels of Verstappen's 51G crash at Silverstone, where during the Red Bull driver's subsequent hospitalisation Hamilton wildly celebrated the win despite having tapped his rival into the barrier.

"Are you a supporter of Max Verstappen?" Lammers continued, addressing Dutch fans directly. "Then do things that help him and that he can be proud of.

"I know it's impossible to forgive someone who doesn't admit their mistake, but Max has risen above it and so can you.

"There are still a lot of races and great battles to come on the track. Let's allow the fights to take place there too," he said.

I see , so its fine to let our kids at Pantomimes Boo the baddie, but its not fine for adults to do so , i cite Emerson , Mcenroe and the England football team performances through the yrs as three examples but heh each to there own opinion .

Imagine golf where the crowd boo, or uk football where the crowd don't, its a silly argument either way imo, and for those that say but f1 isn't about just two teams or two individuals, what about football, wrestling or tennis, darts, fans cheer at a good performance and boo at a poor one, are we saying
opposing fans shouldn't boo a referee at a decision hes made at s football match now?

This is how silly political correctness imo has gone, # certain things in society and rightly so, but for fecks sake booing...????

    I must be very bored

Finally something I can agree on with you not always fine gentlemen!!!

I say boo him (politely) all you want!

And also boo him for assuming that fans are idiots. Remember, when he wins by shunting Max and having his partner hand him the race, he ends up cheerful and beaming, waiving the flag with boundless energy. But when he ends up third with the absolute best car left in the race, he stumbles around threatening to pass out, all in the hope of drawing attention to himself and off the winner.

    What a spectacle.

Fact is that Lewis’ day of reckoning is coming and he does not seem to be able to handle that.

True, true, true Mr. Post. But relinquishing the adulation afforded a champion in ANY sport is a difficult pill to swallow. Sir Lewis seems to be choking on the pill. My preference is that he never sees #8 but that's more because of Michael, not the knight.

Boo him politely , i love it, Boooo, Hissss, bad show old boy ahhh i love it ,

      More from Mr Lambskin here
“Sport should unite people and we should not get hooligan situations like in football,” AND “We are talking about a seven-time World Champion who can be compared to a Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

      Dear Mr Lambsbollocks,
May i suggest you goo gle Ronaldo and Beckham foul/sending off world cup 98, Are we still not allowed to boo?

Mr Lammynuts is just crapping himself , it might reflect bad on the Dutch royal family who own the circuit when they boo and pelt Lewis with empty Red Bull cans "joking" on the slow down lap lol

True post , glad to have stirred up the grey cells a little

Gosh delusion, hatred, jealousy, ... what dismal "lead-some-to-talk-hogwash" diseases.

Are you suggesting Lewis placing 3rd was due to an inability to drive a racecar??? I suppose a poor strategy call had nothing to do with it. Other than spouting bull droppings over the Internet, what is your world conquering achievement?

Forget the dude's 7 World Driving Championships as those of your ilk revel in doing. The dude matched Alonso - the then (double) World Champion - as a rookie (in the same team). Nuff said methinks.

According to you cretins, when the chap wins, it's all down to the car. If he doesn't, then he makes Mazepin look positively world class.

You are also a medical doctor I notice. Why oh why would Lewis need sympathy? The dude is the curent champion, is leading the series, is making a fair bit of quid (I daresay more than your entire household xxx times over). Yup he craves sympathy alright.

Yours must be a really pitiful existence to be so morbidly obsessed with someone who doesn't know nor care you infest the earth with you bile.

The chap simply drives a car for entertainment and the FACT is he does it well enough to win championships at different levels, in different teams and match or beat former world champions as team mates. Now THAT is a FACT - not your wishful thinking envy-ridden "day of reckoning" drivel.

Despite everything he has achieved, those who share your sentiments will never acknowledge the guy's ability. I don't think he gives a copulation 😁.

I don’t think anyone forgets that LH has won 7 championships. But let’s no forget either, he did not have much competition winning those 7 championships. Most of those races were MB and the also rans. Very boring for the fans. Also MB spent huge amounts of money making sure that there wasn’t ‘a whole lot of competition. Michael Schmaucher had real competition during his championship races.

One caveat. IMO Any violence or destructive behaviour at or following a sports event is not 'having a hoot'. Just thought that needed to be said.

I'm actually gonna agree with Madre Moron this time. Please by all means may they boo till they're hoarse. Put some mics in the stands with lots of loud speakers for him to hear through the helmet and quieter engine. Let's get the Hammer perturbed as much as possible Lol.
Now on to predictions. Hammer will win Spa but may suffer a DNF in Dutchland as someone will likely take him out and the haters are gonna get excited as a result, of course!

Certain so called f1 fans should study and learn the difference between a racing incident and a driver trying to take another out risking both their lives the way a certain Schumacher did on countless occasions. We should all be thankful that a driver as skilled and talented as Lewis has come along and given the F1 records back to a true and worthy champion. Don't get me wrong, I am also a huge Verstappen fan but Max can win after Lewis wins his 8th and 5th straight. Thank you sir Lewis Hamilton for finishing what the late, great Senna had started. God bless you always, my brother.

Now there is an idea! Just cancel the Dutch GP!!! After all, given Lewis' fairy tale diminished long covid condition why would we even think of having him exert himself in front of an unruly booing crowd?

Actually, my vote is to end the whole season right now. That way Lewis picks up his eight championship as easily as he picked up 90% of his wins. Sounds fair to me.

God help me, I'm turning into a shroppyfly!

This is becoming more absurd by the minute. Fans pay their admittance fee, they are free to express their lack of support for whomsoever they please. As long as it doesn't degenerate into threats of violence or abuse based on someone's race, religion, origin, personal traits, etc, I don't see it the big deal.

Lewis is part West Indian, I have no doubt he will take this in his stride and maybe even thrive on it. In these parts, sports banter is par for the course. Our "banter" though would be viewed as downright offensive to most crybabies elswhere.

On the flip side, we derive a fair bit of pleasure in shoving the invective back in the faces of those who dish out verbal abuse, through our performances on the field of play.

I say continue booing away :).

Sir B.N, welcome to the show brother. Well said on your part. And the one that keeps replying to you first, he's the lead hater in this bunch. Only thing he's good for is sarcasm Lol. With that nonsensical name he goes by I did him a favor by calling him Super Fly.
Enjoy the entertainment man. It's fun seeing them squirm when Hammer gets the upperhand.

Ah the individual concerned still wouldn't understand quality sarcasm f1, you yourself i think secretly applaud my efforts, go on admit it , but it seems alongside spawning overrated racing drivers from stevenage, sarcasm is something else us Brits are good at

    Footnote.
Ror though appears to have studied the fine art of sarcasm particularly well for a foreigner lol

However its nice to have a challenge, unfortunately though Jax doesn't present much of one in the sarcasm stakes .

Wouldn't want to face a machine gun without this, and Would that be the plan to continue with total slaughter until everyone's dead except Field Marshal Haig, Lady Haig and their tortoise, Alan?

I think Johnny Herbert did a HUGE disservice with his tsk tsking the fans in Hungary booing Lewis Hamilton. I fully agree, you pay a good amount of money to attend a Formula 1 event, you can cheer and boo all you want. I'm fairly confident that LH knew he was going to hear it pretty good after the British Grand Prix... and he didn't seem all that perturbed by it. Crowd reaction one way or another fuels people like Hamilton. Want to really throw the guy off.... have no one react one way or the other to his performance. Have him jump out of his car to crickets. While the others get the adulation from the crowd.

But people can't stop themselves from reacting. The vitriol and spite I see directed at him for his using his platform to promote numerous causes does make me wonder sometimes. If it was someone like a Stroll, or a Verstappen would people set their hair on fire if they took the same public stances as LH and put money behind it. I know Vettel does take on several environmental causes with time and money, and oddly he's not set upon with the vitriol and spite I see directed Hamilton's way. But I guess that's what happens when you colour outside the lines with some people.

Just because Max is Dutch, doesn't mean that the entire population of Holland is behind him. I mean seeing all the reactions to Lammers comment, I'm expecting a re creation of the opening of the fight scene from Rocky III between Drago and Balboa. lmao.

This has to be one of the longest threads in my memory. And it's all about booing Lewis. Isn't that interesting?

Any one who believes that he can instruct fans not to boo as they wish is out of touch and high on himself. Fans have a perfect right to cheer or boo as they please.

Expect a lot of booing if Merc drivers keep taking RedBull drivers out of the contest, it's well deserved.

Now, about British cars. I had one, a Spitfire. I had an agreement going with the dealer: I drove it weekends and he fixed it during the week! The canadian winter was not kind to that car, but it usually started. I miss it!

As I began this thread ,Lewis believes we shouldn't teach our children to Boo, there speaks a man without kids......Now Johnny herbert has two kids, i wonder if he takes them to pantomimes, but tells them not to Boo.....?

As for , well yes not all Dutch fans are behind MV, pretty much the same as not all British fans are Lewis lovers, Lulu, Hurrahhh the names back can support as many things as he likes , his pr team nodoubt tell him whats en vogue at the moment, and I repeat, do we all honestly believe he is donating Twenty Million of his own money, wake up, like all things the sponsors will be doing the donating (quick update on his mission 44 site , bugga all changes again , so whats happening, more pr and bluster perhaps)

Lammers I believe has had the royal family breathing down his neck , not wanting neg Pr at there own race circuit

Always the undertones , if you dont like Lewis your a hater and/or a racist, its laughable, hes only disliked because hes a bit of an arse, nothing more nothing less ..

Britain solved its rubbish car reputation in the eighties by inviting honda, then toyota, the nissan to manufacture in the uk and sold the rest to the germans and Indians .
