Ecclestone urge Renault to stay
F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has advised Renault to stay in Formula 1 and start a new team of its own.
Red Bull’s engine manufacturer is considering its future after a dismal two years, and the Austrian team has criticised Renault for the poor quality of its engines.
One option Renault has is to form its own team, and Ecclestone hopes that this is what they choose.
He told AUTOSPORT: "I'd like them to take over Lotus, or start a new company on their own. I'd rather not lose them because they've been with us a long time and they are easy people to deal with, nice people, there are no dramas anywhere.
"It's just a case, from their point of view, of how much it is worth to them."
Renault’s contract with Red Bull and Toro Rosso comes to an end in 2016, and a lot will depend on next season as it evaluates the damage to its reputation.
