Feb.23 - Formula 1 and the FIA are monitoring the escalating situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, according to a source.

As the US orders troops to Eastern Europe amid Vladimir Putin's apparent aggression against neighbouring Ukraine, Western leaders are busily imposing sanctions on Russia.

A full Russian invasion is reportedly now on the cards, with Britain's Mirror newspaper claiming F1 fans are calling for September's race in Sochi to be boycotted by Formula 1.

Both Sochi and Ukraine are situated close to the Black Sea.

"Formula 1 is monitoring the situation around Russia and Ukraine," Sky UK reporter Craig Slater reportedly said.

"At the moment, the race at Sochi will apparently go ahead, given that it's not until September. That's the situation at the moment," he added.

This whole thing about being skeptical towards Russian GP occurring as scheduled, & especially boycott threat, is silly at this point with seven months left until the relevant event is due.
Different story if the race occurred in the early-season phase like in 2016 & '17, but unnecessarily premature since this isn't the case.

Not really. At this stage any support for Putin should be permanently off regardless of their race being months away. ReallyOldRacer is spot on and it is not a different matter.
Putin is a punk and will never change. It is a great pity that politics have come into F1 but it has.
