Jos Verstappen has hinted that his son Max may not stay at Red Bull beyond his 2020 contract.

Max, 21, is the clear number 1 at the team but his father Jos, a former F1 driver, suggested a move to another team cannot be ruled out.

"As it looks now, it is good for Max to stay with Red Bull. But we are watching very carefully how things go," Jos told De Telegraaf newspaper.

The comments follow rumours that the Verstappen camp has been in contact with Mercedes' Toto Wolff. Responding to those reports, Wolff admitted he is friends with Jos.

Jos said: "We thought we would have a better chance this year. But Mercedes has a better engine and a better car.

"In the current situation, it is possible that Max will not win a race this year," he added.

In late 2017, Verstappen extended his contract with Red Bull to the end of 2020.

"In the long term we have to think about what we will do in the coming years," Jos continued.

He acknowledged that the rules are changing significantly for 2021.

"Then it will be a guess as to what team you should be with," said Verstappen senior.

I do not care what Max verstappen is up to. and his father Jos should not be telling him what he should do. Jo's was pretty boring when he was driving in f1.

Agree with John Lake,- F1 is so boring now and predictable i am cancelling my foxtel cable tv after Monaco!! I may put it back on for 2021, also the commentary coming out of Sky who Foxtel use is getting very childish and they need to rethink their team and bring back Ted to all races and maybe give Crofty a break!!!!

Agree with childish behaviour of Foxtel team. Especially Crofty. He tries to call the race result by lap 2 and engages in childish speculation - thank heavens for the racers who co commentate and can correct him.

The only way to watch F1 is at the track..definitely NOT boring when you're in the crowd and smelling the race and the noise. Try it some time and don't take things so seriously..just ask Kimi.

F1 has become boring, UK bias commentators even worse than Gordon Murray I know 99 % of the teams are based in the UK, but its still an International sport. The commentary is more boring then the Mercedes domination. We need to see rivals going at each other

Crofty only talks about Mercedes and Ferrari, Martin Brundle tries to talk about Max Verstappen but I suspect he got a slap on the wrist so its all about Hamilton again and again. My advice, turn off the sound and just watch, no Crofty anymore.....

F1was great but the commentators are absolute crap. Very boring, very repetitive.
As for the racing, I haven't bothered this season to sign up for streaming. Just not worth the money or hassle. Take note Chase you've stuffed a good product.
