Ferrari boss encouraged VW to enter F1
Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne has admitted that he persisted with trying to convince car giant Volkswagen to enter Formula 1 during the emissions scandal.
VW, the largest car brand in the world, has been linked with setting up a team in the past couple of years.
However, this year’s emission scandal, which seriously harmed their reputation, seems to have ended the discussion.
"In spite of the problems Volkswagen is having, I have always encouraged the past managing director of Volkswagen to join F1," Marchionne said.
"That such a large company was not in F1 was always very strange to me. I also encouraged General Motors, I always try to encourage all of them to join.
"That would be good for the sport, for them and for us."
The VW group is currently involved in rallying, but it has always avoided F1.
F1 is on the lookout for new investors, although Aston Martin seems to have ended their interest.
