Force India owner Vijay Mallya ha revealed that he is in talks with Renault over selling the team.
Renault, who currently supply Red Bull and Toro Rosso, are expected to make a full return as a works team next year and are interested in buying Mallya’s mid-table team.
Mallya told AUTOSPORT: "They asked me: 'Would you be prepared to part with a majority stake?' If I said no, maybe it would have been end of conversation.
"I said it has to be considered, in light of a potential offer, and secondly I asked what are the minority protection rights you offer?
"There is no deal on the table. They have not made a decision about their plans. It's very preliminary."
Buying Force India would be a surprise move from the French manufacturers, with Lotus seen as the obvious target.
The English team are in a dire financial situation and are in desperate need of investment.
