Welcome to our ‘Nikki’s Helping Hands’ Christmas Auction.

"Thank you for taking the time to visit this auction, set up by a group of friends, to raise funds for Nikki Douthwaite, a mother with cancer. I have known Nikki through her fabulous artwork she has created for Formula One, over the last 10 years, and I am proud to have been able to personally contribute to two of the lots.  The funds raised from the auction will help support a lovely family during a particularly difficult time.  Please help support by bidding" (Mr Jake Humphrey - presenter of BBC Sport Football and ex presenter of BBC F1)

Great auction: Win F1 VIP Tickets British GP 2019Nikki Douthwaite is one of the UK’s premier dot or ‘confetti’ artists, originally inspired by Seurat’s pointillist works of the late 19th century and the chemist Michel Eugene Chevreul's theories of optical mixing, colour placement and colour relationships.  Her work involves the individual placement of literally thousands of hole-punched dots primarily into portraiture, but also the occasional landscape or abstract commission.  Close up, the dots are seemingly chaotic, but with distance, the composite effect and the image itself swiftly become apparent.

Much of Nikki’s work has been based around her love of motor sport, predominantly Formula One, for which she has a longstanding passion.  She has always maintained that her love of cars and art are not quite so far apart as one might initially imagine.  In a 2014 interview with the BBC, she observed that “driving an F1 car is an art form, they are made up of lots of parts that are carefully put together to make one large finished piece. Each season they find out what they did wrong or how they can improve for the next year, just like I do with my pictures, not to mention the dedication and the approach tactics. Is it really that different?"

Great auction: Win F1 VIP Tickets British GP 2019It’s not just her F1 heroes Nikki has depicted, although Lewis Hamilton, James Hunt and Jenson Button have featured in her portfolio.  Other legends include George Best, John Lennon, Audrey Hepburn, and many, many more.

Jake Humphrey, Ross Brawn, The Grand Prix Trust and Martin Brundle have donated some amazing British GP prizes to a charity auction to help a talented F1 painter Nikki Douthwaite (her works go on tour round the circuits, are on permanent display at Silverstone and has been commissioned by such as McLaren and Red Bull).

The main lot is as follows and we also have a couple of other F1 prizes such as VIP tickets to be Jake Humphrey’s personal guest and a signed Max Verstappen balaclava

• Friday: Hosted lunch courtesy of Neil England, ex Silverstone MD at the British Racing Driver’s Club at Silverstone

• Saturday & Sunday: The BRDC have kindly donated two weekend passes, one VIP car pass and two BRDC Grandstand allocated seats to the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone in 2019. This package also includes lunch before the Grand Prix on Sunday and use of the BRDC VIP buggies.

In addition, the tickets will gain access to the hallowed grounds of the British Racing Drivers’ Club. The BRDC Clubhouse offers the best viewing at Silverstone together with an exclusive, comfortable environment that is only normally available to those who have achieved at the highest levels of International Motorsport.

These tickets are far superior to any others on offer at the British Grand Prix and are not available outside the Club,

INCLUDING: Exclusive Paddock tickets donated by Ross Brawn, Head of F1 where you will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the drivers and owners. These passes cannot be bought and will give you the ultimate F1 experience.

Good stuff, but the hybrid engines, although the future and more environmentally friendly, have taken the edge off the F1 experience. Is there some way we could bring back the glorious noise of the old cars..
