Nov.6 - Lewis Hamilton has been urged to "speak out" against Formula 1's newly-announced 2021 race in Saudi Arabia.

The sport has now officially confirmed that it will attend a spectacular night race in the city of Jeddah next November.

Saudi Arabia, however, is often widely condemned for its human rights record, even though a F1 spokesman said on Thursday that the sport has made its "position on human rights and other issues clear to all our partners".

So with world champion Hamilton outspoken on many social movements including Black Lives Matter, Amnesty International is calling on him to now "speak out" against Saudi Arabia.

"It would be incredibly important if Lewis could speak out," said Amnesty's head of campaigns Felix Jakens.

"If the sport's most high-profile driver is willing to speak out and say 'Actually, this is a country that has an appalling human rights record', that takes the sheen off Saudi Arabia's ability to sports-wash its image," he added.

"F1 talks about diversification, inclusivity and appealing to LGBT people, so it needs to make a sustained effort on human rights."

Here we go with another thread about politics and social issues. Yeah, Saudi Arabia sucks, so do several other current F1 venues, and let's remember that South Africa was a F1 fixture during apartheid. Can we please talk about RACING?

Why is Saudi Arabia being picked on for human rights violations? What about China, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and all the rest of the Middle Eastern countries? F1 has long been a favorite venue of oppressive regimes to show how wonderful their countries are.

What about Mercedes Benz using slave Jewish labor in the 1930s and 1940s? And their name is on 2 American football stadiums in the deep South thst is beying forcef to test down statues of famoys leadets who were slaveholdets 150-250 years ago? Shameful. Talk about hypocrytes.

Agin, Hamilton should just boycot all of these venues!

You can see how ridiculous grudge holding and victim hood gets. It has become an industry in the USA with no real solutions but to forgive and forget which a lot of trouble makers don’t want to do. Best to ignore it all and just go racing.

Precisely. Hamilton should back his rhetoric with a boycot. Is it $45M/year contract, OR human rights? Actions speak louder than words... Perhaps he should just STFU&D!?

Famous leaders FOR ANOTHER COUNTRy. They were traitors who had betrayed our country and were currently acting as military leaders in another country that was involved in a WAR with the USA and killing our soldiers. As a southerner who has lived most of his life in either Virginia, Mississippi, or Texas, screw those statues. I would be fine if they were all smashed to pieces.

guys guys, Saudi Arabia dont have law book, they are using Quran instead, so every verdict is totaly righteous and in accordance with what Allah said, so speaking against any Saudi decisions is total blasphemy and direct attack on Islam... there is no point in condemning someone who thinks that his decisions are good and righteous, instead you can only try to argue against it and try to show them that their ways are bad, but ussualy that doesnt show any results and all that they would need to say is that you are noone to question or argue against words of God...
it would be totaly pointles for Hamilton or anyone else to condemn Saudi Arabia and that would only put him in risky sittuation...

When the USA and others slap them with sanctions and no military aid they will eventually come around on human rights. But that won't happen until their supply of oil dries up or becomes obsolete.

They have at least several hundred years supply of oil. In addition oil is far more valuable than just as fuel, as it is a lubricant and is used to make all types of plastics and many different types of clothing materials, medicines, cleaning supplies, etc. The list is astonishing and the need for oil will never end. Counting all sources of oil we probably have 500 plus years supply.
