Lewis Hamilton held off Sebastian Vettel to win the Canadian Grand Prix and cut Nico Rosberg's world championship lead to just nine points.

The champion lost his lead to Vettel at the start, while Rosberg fell back after a robust defensive move from Hamilton.

But Vettel lost his lead when Ferrari decided to put him on a different strategy to Hamilton and pit twice, as opposed to the Mercedes man's one.

But Mercedes won the tactical battle, and Hamilton won by over five seconds from a clearly frustrated Vettel.

Rosberg fought his way back up to fifth from 10th, but he spun when trying to overtake Max Verstappen on the final lap.

Valtteri Bottas took third for Williams, who bounced back to form, while Verstappen took fourth.

Kimi Raikkonen finished behind Rosberg in sixth, while Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz and Sergio Pérez also scored points.

Jenson Button retired for McLaren due to an engine failure, along with Felipe Massa and Jolyon Palmer.
