Lewis Hamilton has been disqualified for having a to large DRS opening on his rear wing during qualifying yesterday.

The official FIA statement says:

Reason The Technical Delegate reported that Car 44 failed the test designed to check the requirements of the last paragraph of Art. 3.6.3 of the 2021 FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations. The check is described in Technical Directive 011-19.

In lay terms, there is a gap between the upper and lower parts of the rear wing. When the DRS is not activated this gap must be between 10mm and 15mm. The car passed this part of the test.

When DRS is activated, which raises the upper element of the wing to a flatter position, the gap must be between 10mm and 85mm. The maximum gap is measured,in accordance with TD/011-19, by pushing an 85mm gauge against the gap with a maximum load of 10N (ten newtons.) If the gauge goes through then the car has failed the test. In this case, the gauge would not pass through at the inner section of the wing, but did at the outer section of the wing. This test was repeated four times with two different gauges, once being done in the presence of the Stewards and
representatives of the Competitor.

The Stewards held a hearing on Friday following qualifying with Ron Meadows, the Competitor representative, and Simon Cole, the Chief Engineer, Trackside and from the FIA Jo Bauer, Technical Delegate and Nicholas Tombazis, Single Seater Technical Director. The Stewards then adjourned the hearing to gather more evidence and at 10:30am on Saturday morning held a further hearing that also included John Owen, Chief Designer for the Competitor, who testified by video conference, but did not include Joe Bauer.

Hamilton probably has to start from the back now at the start of the Sprint race

If I was managing Mercedes Team I would withdraw from F1 for the rest of the season and give the FIA what they want,,,, a Red Bull championship. The rules were changed earlier in the year which compromised Mercedes and Aston Martin and favoured Red Bull and others. Fed up !!!!!

Great example of our Knight, telling kids , look kids, if it looks like your gonna lose at something, just cheat, its ok, bless him and Toto, will he now do the decent thing and retire gracefully from the sport at the end of the yr though.reputation erm... tarnished by greed of him and his team to win by cheating

All good Shrop', but can't wait for the taxi driver's whiney rant about how it wasn't Sir Lew's fault , it was all on the team. Knight fell quickly in the kingdom. Doubt that it was intentional, fire the wing man. Oh wait, they already did.

What is it Lewis is always saying , I'm really enjoying the championship this year , I doubt somehow hes enjoying it that much this weekend, as for Toto and his speil , all the championship needs is one dnf and we are back in the hunt, or in todays case a dsq and we are F***ed..

Im sure the Bod and Sir Jim are ecstatic with today's result...Not

But its wrong to gloat and be sarcastic, but Ill do it anyway

And I suppose both Vettel and Ricciardo's was also to blame when they got disqualified in a 2014 race for "flexi" front wings on the Bulls. Lol. Oops. did you muppets forget about that one. As in yes it's solely the teams's fault, not the driver my dotard Old friend.

Have I missed it but was it just by chance MV spotted the wing gap was out by a couple of mm and thought he'd check as if to make a point to the stewards. Unlikely so why is no one asking why did he do it, I've never seen it done before, there's no way it was a coincidence.
Is there a mole in the Mercedes team?
