Hamilton hopes to sign mega deal this week
Lewis Hamilton has said that he hopes to put pen to paper on a £40 million-a-year deal with Mercedes before the Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend.
Hamilton has been negotiating with the team since the end of last season, and the deal has taken much longer than previously expected.
However, Hamilton has said that he wants to finalise the deal this weekend, putting an end to speculation over his future.
He told Sky Sports: “It is going back between the lawyers so hopefully it is done before the weekend. That would be great, but if not in due time.”
Hamilton’s salary is expected to double from £20 million-a-year to £40 million-a-year, which will make him the highest paid driver on the grid.
Sebastian Vettel is currently the highest paid, as he earns £37 million-a-year at Ferrari.
