Dec.22 - Seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton isn't sure how closely he'll work with new Mercedes recruit Mick Schumacher in 2023.

Having lost his Haas seat after two seasons, the 23-year-old German's Formula 1 career has been rescued by Toto Wolff as Schumacher is appointed reserve driver.

"Mick is a great talent," team race driver Hamilton told Sport Bild. "He is an asset for Mercedes. He is a German driver and his father and Mercedes were already closely connected."

However, 37-year-old Hamilton isn't actually sure how much he will rely on Schumacher's direct input next year.

"You don't actually work that closely with the third driver anymore," said the Briton.

"It's a lot of simulator work and not like it used to be, even though we'll still be teammates."

As for his own F1 future, Hamilton's current contract expires at the end of the 2023 season and boss Wolff says a new deal will be "one of the issues we tackle over the winter".

Hamilton told the German magazine: "So far there is no time frame for that as we've been constantly on the road for the last few months.

"It won't be long now, but I will definitely stay," he added.

"I think stopping as world champion is a dream that every athlete has - and so do I."

"I think stopping as world champion is a dream that every athlete has - and so do I." This message is for the wage payers at Merc, He knows that ship has sailed, George knows he can beat him, Max knows he can beat him, and the rest know hes beatable, I dont expect the same negative response to working with Mick from King G.

Misleading headline. Not the focus of the interview. Find and read the entire script. This is about drivers' value to a team. Does the following make sense? The HAM/RUS disparity is incredible.

    Max Verstappen: $60m
    Lewis Hamilton: $55m
    Fernando Alonso: $30
    Sergio Perez: $26
    Charles Leclerc: $23m
    Sebastian Vettel: $17m
    Daniel Ricciardo: $17m
    Carlos Sainz: Salary: $15m
    Lando Norris: Salary:$11m
    George Russell: Salary: $10m

Next year will probably give a much better idea of the drivers worth. MV probably too high (one lucky wdc and one with no competition for his car). GR can probably expect a fairly big hike now he has shown what he can do. LH? Well he is the GOAT, and the real winner of last years Wdc and I wouldn’t put money on him being over the hill just yet.
New talent? Don’t see much coming along sadly.

During the interview, the journo was stunned by his response: "I won't actually work that closely with the third driver anyway, I'm far better than he is...." said Dame Lucille with a conceited sneer. Reactions were mixed in the sports world, but Toto Wolff was heard to mutter: "Thank Gawd it'll all be over in 2023."
