Feb.1 - Lewis Hamilton's contract situation is becoming "quite unpleasant" for the new seven time world champion.

That is the view of Russian F1 commentator Alexey Popov, who wonders if Hamilton is miscalculating his rumoured demands as he negotiates with Mercedes.

"I thought, like Bernie Ecclestone did, that this was all a marketing ploy so that people would talk about Mercedes," the Match TV broadcaster said.

"But it seems like 80 percent of British people don't want to see Hamilton in that car this season," Popov added. "Maybe it's because it would be a British driver to replace him.

"Anyway, the situation is quite unpleasant for Lewis."

Former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde thinks the situation is a double-edged sword for 36-year-old Hamilton, with both his on-track dominance and off-track personality a turn-off for some fans.

"He has really changed as a person," he told RTL GP.

"Sometimes Lewis went crazy off the track, but not anymore. What he does on the track is great, but outside the track he has become a bit of a boring guy," van der Garde told the Dutch source.

"It's the opposite with Max (Verstappen). He changes zero. He has remained a normal guy who you can always laugh with."

Formula one need Ferrari to be COMPETITIVE for the Fan/Tifosi to take part in the race,
Binotto must be replaced, Ferrari will never WIN races or Championship with
    Binotto in charge.

It makes no sense Popov saying that "80% of people don't want to see LH back in the car, maybe because he'll be replaced by a British driver" Does he not realise LH is British?

The number of Sir Lewis Hamilton detractors is humongous. Popov is silly to expect a financially strapped 22 year old to act the same, personally & economically, at the mature age of 36. So much for Popov just popping off without forethought.

Folks better recognize that Sir Hamilton has won a race in every season that he's participated in F1. Bear in mind, the list of drivers who haven't is extensive. So, all of you Windbush advocates, detractors & generally miserable wacist, kick rocks!

I wish I understood this comment 🤔 I merely pointed out that Popov had said that British people wanted LH replaced, because he would be replaced by a British driver & I said didn't he realise LH was British? I then agreed with a comment that would like to see LH & GR as the drivers. Where is your venom aimed?

Lewis has been in the best car in F1 for every season he has driven in F1, some of that is shrewd business acumen no doubt but it's still an undeniable fact. He is one of the all-time best no doubt and I completely agree that to think an experienced world champion should be after the same as a young kid starting out is ridiculous, but 60 million quid for driving a fricking car around a track? Come on! The world is upside down! What he's actually done to save anyone lives apart from kneel on a race track with his fist in the air?
The fact he's promoting a very worth-while cause is great, what would be greater is donating a significant amount of his pay cheque to a hospital to help them save people and actually pay the staff working all hours in the horrendous conditions this government wants them to work in. Look at people like Bill Gates who give away most of their fortune to help the needy across the world.
Step up Lewis and earn the SIR you've been gifted by showing the world that you are a class-act by using your platform to help the world by backing up your words with actions, rather than another penthouse in Monaco. Remember the "slums" of Stevenage whilst driving your 100 grand car around Monaco.

"The Slums of Stevenage "comment will never leave LH.... apparently he does give money to charities , but so far i can't seem to find any record of how much, anywayyyy, the thing is as Brits we like to build up our champions, but woe betide they then get to big for there boots , thats where LH is now , he thinks hes too special....... as ive said before i think a one yr deal and hell fade into our memories, on another vote, his value to Mercedes, i know mika did car adverts for yrs ,do we think LH will keep the tradition going after he retires ??? of course this is just my own opinion, the goat lovers will have a different one whatever happens

  5. shroppyfly
