Hamilton not in to 'racism undertones' opinion
Lewis Hamilton has distanced himself from suggestions that the British media has an attitude with "racist undertones" about Lewis Hamilton.
Heading into his home race, one reporter for the left-wing newspaper The Guardian asked the Mercedes driver about his British "accent", the time he spends in the US, and the fact that he lives in Monaco.
"I remember watching Jenson Button and all the others coming through and every one migrated to Monaco and no one ever said anything about it. When I did, they had something to say about it," Hamilton responded.
But then, former British footballer Rio Ferndinand wrote a social media post about Hamilton and said there are "racist undertones" to the criticism of him.
"I can understand Rio's opinion and he has the right to say that," Hamilton responded. "It is not an area that I particularly want to go down.
"I have got supporters from all different ethnic backgrounds and I love that I am part of bringing people together that perhaps would not have been before. I am really proud of that, and I am just going to keep going," he said.

Well, well, well. Who would've ever thunk?
And the Pope doesn't shit in the woods, either!
While I think Hamilton is a peacock this deflection of the idea of racism is classy. He could jump on the PC bandwagon (we should burn that wagon) and complain of "racism" but he didn't, kudos. F1 is about racing, not where the drivers live. The Brit press whines about everything.
Tom, You are absolutely correct. Hamilton is entirely above it, and I admire him for that.
Regrettably neither the fans nor the media are up to the task. Both are saturated with guilt feelings trying to atone for colonial past, perhaps!?, and shamelessly pander to Lewis. You may recall how he attempted to make a light of it mimicking Sasha Baron, I think, saying "Is it because I'm black?" It instantly produced the air of unease and consternation among all who were present and heard it. He, literally, had to explain to them the origin, the meaning and the ramifications of the saying. By that time the cat was out of the bag: it exposed the bigotry of the whole shop. Deep down most of these people use Lewis as "our token nigger," which I find so offensive. They must be awfully naive if they think Lewis doesn't see through it.
