Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for tomorrow's Australian Grand Prix, after a stunning lap time beat his team-mate, Nico Rosberg.

The Mercedes driver did a 1:26.327s, which more than half a second faster than Rosberg, who spoiled his lap with a poor first sector.

Felipe Massa will start third for Williams, ahead of Ferrari drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

Massa's team-mate, Valtteri Bottas, spoiled his flying lap with an error in the final corner and he will start sixth.

Red Bull’s power issues continued in qualifying, with Daniil Kvyat left down in 14th. Team boss Christian Horner said that he would be surprised if one of his drivers made it through to the top ten shoot out, but Daniel Ricciardo managed to qualify in seventh.

Toro Rosso débutante Max Verstappen will start 12th, after an impressive performance but his team-mate, Carlos Sainz, managed to break into the top ten and starts eighth.

McLaren crashed out in P1, as Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen finished three seconds off the pace. However, the pair remained upbeat afterwards and insist that there is more to come this season.

Manor failed to appear in the session, with Will Stevens and Roberto Mehri routed to the garage. They will not compete tomorrow, and will turn their attention to the Malaysian Grand Prix in two weeks time.
