Lewis Hamilton is on pole for the Italian Grand Prix tomorrow, where he could take a massive step towards becoming world champion.

His team-mate, and title rival, Nico Rosberg will start fourth behind Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel after a late engine change before the session.

The German is already 27 points behind Hamilton and can not afford to keep slipping behind.

Rosberg was in trouble after the first run in Q3 as he languished down in fifth behind both Ferrari drivers and Felipe Massa.

However, he improved his time to beat Massa, but couldn't get past Raikkonen and Vettel, who qualified just 0.2s behind Hamilton.

Ferrari's impressive pace could be a cause for concern for Mercedes tomorrow, with Raikkonen in particular looking dangerous.

Nico Hulkenberg's Q3 was ruined after his car broke down after his first run and he will start in ninth.

Marcus Ericsson also made it into the top 10 for Sauber, but Felipe Nasr couldn't do better than 12th. Pastor Maldonado also missed out on final qualifying, as he came 11th.

There was also problems for Red Bull, as Daniel Ricciardo's engine failure from FP3 meant that he qualified 15th. With an engine penalty, he will start at the back.

Toro Rosso face punishment from the FIA after Max Verstappen lost his engine cover during Q1, while McLaren suffered more misery as both drivers finished in the bottom five.
