Mar.27 - Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to one thing in Saudi Arabia - going "home".

It has been a nightmare weekend for the seven time world champion, as he failed to even get out of Q1 a day after all-night meetings in which he reportedly called for a race boycott.

"I think the word boycott is not the right word because we are not here to be here in two categories. We are here as one family as F1," F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali insisted.

When asked about his involvement in trying to organise a boycott, Hamilton said on Saturday: "I'm not here to comment on that.

"We work together as a group. We discussed it and made a decision."

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher also made a decision late on Friday - to pack his bags and go home.

"There are so many things in Saudi Arabia that I don't think are right," said the Sky Deutschland pundit before departing for Munich along with fellow commentator Sascha Roos and reporter Sandra Baumgartner.

"I can't support them, that's why I left," Schumacher added. "But that's my personal decision."

Already absent in Saudi Arabia was Sebastian Vettel, reportedly due to covid. But the German also gave an interview to ARD a few days ago, outlining his concerns about the situation with F1 travelling to the country.

"We all know that Sebastian is a smart guy," Aston Martin's new team boss Mike Krack said when asked about that interview. "He's not afraid to speak his mind, and he should do so."

As for Hamilton, his boycott thoughts were all mixed up with a horror weekend of pace, as his teammate George Russell qualified 6th - ten places behind the 37-year-old Briton.

"The car was unstable and undriveable," Hamilton said.

"Yesterday's events didn't affect me, we just went in the wrong direction with the setup. But we need to figure it out."

He then told the French broadcaster Canal Plus: "I can't wait to leave and get home."

But in Sandland he says -When asked about his involvement in trying to organise a boycott, Hamilton said on Saturday: "I'm not here to comment on that

yes, much easier to just read whats already been published by the press around the world and say nothing..!, i should stop having these individual thoughts and say nothing like you do

If you think its bad now , if his poor form continues and GR good form continues, the media will smell blood and destroy him, all the attention is on the young guns now, oh and Bottas, your best mate

Hamilton is no hero by any stretch of the imagination. If he felt that strongly that his life was endangered, he should have left SA. He has a contract with Merc, they wouldn’t have fired him. Maybe he needs to spend more time in the simulator and less time whining about all the world’s woes, min which he has zero control.

  2. Susan

Maybe it’s time for the “great one” to exit the playing field. His performance in Q1 should keep in occupied instead of worrying himself about what other countries do. He is entitled to his opinion but save it until he’s finished his job at Mercedes. There is nothing new about Saudi Arabia. They have always had their own laws that most don’t agree with. He knew that coming to Saudi. LH spends way too much time worrying about things he can’t control. He may be the ruler in is own world but that’s about it.

I am not naive or even nieve (sp?). I have been around a long time and experience some of life’s challenges like most. Lewis or anyone else was not in any immediate danger. Why is Lewis the only driver bemoaning his emotional health? Racing is a wonderful and exciting sport but if he can’t handle losing, he isn’t made of very good stuff. He has become very tiresome and if he doesn’t man up and start earning his enormous salary, he will be yesterday’s news. Greatness has a way of fleeting into dust.

    • Susan

I don’t think I’m naive, I think LH is. He’s entitled to say what he pleases, however, he is under contract to Mercedes to drive their car and hopefully win races…period. If he is uncomfortable where he drives, maybe that should have been addressed when negotiationing his contract. In spite of his successes, he is only a tool in Mercedes toolbox to win the Constructors Championship. Like it or not.

      • shroppyfly

Totally agree Susan, but what everyone forgets that in total merc have between 50-70 staff at the races, were they given the choice as well?

Anyway I don't really see Lewis as a tool... a spanner maybe , ahhh British humour and added sarcasm works every time

Better watch my comments re Hamilton and his wife , don't want a slap in the face from him like CR got.

        • Blowfly

          Was anyone given the choice?
They need Will looking out for them or maybe lucky lucky lucky whiney Max should get his dad to sort it out.

Lewis Hamilton has spoken about his mental and emotional struggles, saying in a social media post that it was "hard some days to stay positive".

The 37-year-old Mercedes driver told fans on Instagram they were not alone.

"It's been such a tough year already with everything that is happening around us," the Briton said.

"I have struggled mentally and emotionally for a long time, to keep going is a constant effort but we have to keep fighting."

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion added: "I'm writing to tell you it's OK to feel the way you do, just know that you are not alone and we are gonna get through this.

"We have so much to do and to achieve."

    • Jax

Lol sure sure.... Super Fly the tough guy 😄. He'd likely knock you to your grave in return. I'd pay good money to see you vs. Sir Lewis in a cage match. Rules be damned!

Probably wonder why I keep on about sir Lulu partly because he is always giving press interviews, example :I sir Lulu for quite awile have been suffering mentally & emotionaly, “I knew there was something wrong with him " it was a hard year last year and its just as bad this year. Sympathy votes don't make world champions so how has he done it for the last seven years.

  8. Blowfly

Have just read a news article about a young girl who was beaten to death by a bunch of morons who did’nt like the way she looked because she looked like a goth.
Make you feel proud of your comments does it? Make you feel less inadequate does it?

  9. Donalf

Sir Lulu's view on Saudi Arabia's invite to discuss human rights at top level. "Should i go or Should I stay." is this his chance to change the world.
