F1's reigning world champion has slammed the "white-dominated sport" for "staying silent" amid the latest political turmoil.

In recent days, the death in custody of a black man in Minneapolis has sparked protests but also violent and destructive riots across the United States.

Lewis Hamilton is now calling out his F1 colleagues for "staying silent" about the situation.

"I see those of you who are staying silent, some of you the biggest of stars yet you stay silent in the midst of injustice," he said on social media.

"Not a sign from anybody in my industry which of course is a white dominated sport. I'm one of the only people of colour there yet I stand alone.

"Just know I know who you are and I see you," the Mercedes driver added.

In a follow-up post, Hamilton clarified that he was not expressing support for "those looting and burning buildings".

"There can be no peace until our so called leaders make change," he added.

Fellow British driver Lando Norris has changed the profile picture on his Twitter page to a photo bearing the words 'Black lives matter', and Daniel Ricciardo used the same phrase in a post on Facebook.

Yet Lewis shook hands with Putin after the Russian Grand Prix despite Putin lying about the Russian involvement over the death of Dawn Sturgess in Salisbury. Cmon Lewis be consistent

You are correct, Ken, but HAM is talking about racial issues here, not asshole dictators. He is a young man of color and deserves a platform.

Not denying that, the death in the USA was appalling, just a shame he isn't consistent. The only comment he made with Putin was that he was "looking forward to the champagne". I thought it crass at the time and I'm a fan of the GOAT.

I cannot believe that he is bringing this into the F1 , it never was done and to me the FIA need to make shure that this is not done! Tomorrow it is one of the other many issues of injustice.
I think and believe color doesn't matter yellow, white, brown or black they are all human beings and to me Lewis is one big hypocriet by trying to force his colleguas to get involved in his "game" and suddenly he is so concerned about F1 beinga "white"sport. He must be ashamed of himself by his "dirtthrowing"towards F1 . If I remember correct he is the best paid driver for 6 years already. Hamilton shut up or stop taking part in this awful "white"F1 anylonger, just retire yourself, please. I was a fan of the best driver being the sixtime worldchampion Lewis but I don't like now how he is behaving .
