Lewis Hamilton will run his second engine of the season in tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix after problems ruined today’s qualifying session.

The world champion had an MGU-H issue on his first engine which prevented him from setting a lap.

Mercedes have deemed it to broken to fix and Hamilton will be given a fresh one with which to mount a comeback.

"You can overtake here," he said.

"It isn't over till it's over.

"The two Ferraris are quick so that puts a podium out of the way, unless something happens to them.

"But I will give it everything I've got."

Hamilton has elected to start at the back of the grid as opposed to the pitlane, which is an option for drivers who change engines.

The Englishman changed gearboxes at the beginning of the weekend and had been expecting a five-place gird penalty.
