Hamilton wants to drive F1 until 2022
World champion Lewis Hamilton has said that he wants to drive for seven more seasons, after winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Hamilton won the prestigious British award, which is a voted for by the public, on Sunday night after winning his second world championship.
In his acceptance speech, Hamilton said he wants to continue until he is 37.
He said: “I feel like I’ve got another seven years left in F1. That’s the goal. I got the first title in 2008 and now a second title, so the sky is the limit from here. I’ve just got to keep pushing.”
Hamilton beat Nico Rosberg to the 2014 title, after a yearlong battle in the dominant Mercedes.
However, Hamilton win on Sunday has come in for some criticism with many feeling golfer Rory McIlroy deserved the award.
Hamilton also expressed his surprise: “Rory has just blown everyone away, so I’m taken aback by it. I feel very privileged to be representing the country.”
