Feb.11 - Lewis Hamilton was "in trouble" in the moments immediately after losing the 2021 world championship.

That is the claim of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, who was up on the podium with the seven time world champion and new title winner Max Verstappen after the highly contentious Abu Dhabi finale.

"How would I have felt in his place? Very bad," the Spaniard told Corriere della Sera newspaper.

"I was surprised how he avoided making a mess of it after that race. Losing the title on the last lap like that is really hard to accept, so I respect him even more than I did before for how he managed to behave.

"We exchanged a few words on the podium - he was really in trouble," Sainz revealed.

The Ferrari driver says it's important now for Formula 1 to tidy up the aftermath of the affair to that the sport is not constantly grappling with rolling controversies.

"The same mistake cannot be repeated," he said. "Every football match we see now generates a controversy, but we must prevent F1 from approaching that sort of tension.

"But the situation does not seem disastrous to me. I am sure we are on the way to improving it."

When you're raised to believe then buy into the victim mentality, you get drama Queen Lewis Hamilton. He's not a victim. He got beat.

PS Expect me to post something similar in response to every single article posted about Lewis' vitcim-hood. Please. Stop.

      Agree totally with your comments.
LH needs to focus on both his achievements; all thanks to being helped by Ron Dennis of McLaren . He has been often very lucky but not at this last race.

When he raced with Nico as teammate, the rivalry was electric, especially when they clashed on track. Remember the bleating on the radio -- " Nico hit me , Nico hit me !"
His car has carried number 44. This was Stirling Moss's number when he raced for Mercedes , but the difference Stirling was a gentleman and didn't play gamesmanship.

Another F1 fan from the US here totally agrees - perhaps the Brits have a higher tolerance for whiny little bitches than we Americans? Maybe that whole "royal family" shit they still swallow? And I agree with the comment below - in so many ways (that I've detailed in prior comments on this site) Baby Lewie has proven himself ungentlemanly and unworthy of his "knighthood."

Spy - we (US F1 fans) may be small in terms of %age of population, but we do have 330 million people here, so only a small fraction is needed for there to be enough of us to count. The US market is rather important for many international businesses, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull and Aston Martin included. So do piss off with your anti-American bias, thanks!

Well, considering we have so many other, more competitive options (IndyCar and NASCAR) where talented young drivers can progress thru the ranks and make quite a good living, and not be guaranteed back marker status (talking to you Haas), it is rather remarkable that Indy 500 Winner Alexander Rossi spent several years in GP2 and F1 in uncompetitive cars and Scott Speed missed out by a few years on Red Bull's competitiveness. I would like to see Colton Herta in F1, but only in a competitive car, and that means two, maybe three or four maximum teams out of ten, so unlikely. Re the Canadians, they are both billionaire spawn (one's father owns the team and the other's father will likely soon own a chunk unless Putin invades Ukraine, in which case I hope Haas is forced to remove the Russian colors) so there's that. Maybe Musk or Zuckerberg will eventually have a son (or daughter?) in F1, but I doubt it.

          • michael

And our friends to the south. Mexico is part of North America.
Unfortunately, we have all these other race car series that steal the talent. And once you drive CART (or God forbid, NASCAR) you don't know what real cars are about. It's not just about speed. It's about turning and breaking. 30 years ago, it was almost impossible to even follow F1 in the states. It got much better but as of last year, ESPN picked up the coverage. That guarantees lots of commercials and interruptions during the race. You don't know how good you have it out there!

Well Adrian, you can piss off too, having a dig at our Royal family. Why did you have to bring them into an F1 debate? Lewis has brought a high level of interest to F1 being British. He absolutely deserves his Knighthood for his 7 world Championships

Not digging at you Linda , but its big news when the royals attend SS as i think Harry and William have done one or more times , and tbf it is the queen or a member of the RF that actually knights us mere mortals, and I'm all for the piss take but have resisted mentioning Prince Andrew ( soon to be just Andrew) when , sorry, if his trial is played out on TV

Ok so Lewis fels cheated, i draw your attention to Damon and the real goat MS, when Michael took him out , did he sulk, did he whinge, did the team make a complaint, errr no, so whilst Damon may only have one WDC who deserves the knight hood now? some may , all naturally IMO .

          • Adrian Roscher

Linda - the Brit "royal" family (more like a bunch of seriously inbred German aristocrats, but whatever floats your monarchist boat) brought themselves into the F1 debate by granting the hamster a knighthood, despite his repeated ungentlemanly behavior that I have described ad nauseum on this site already.

  2. shroppyfly

Oh no , what's this? anti Lulu hour or something lol, Brit here and unsurprisingly i concur with the whiny git comments, lets see this year what he comes up with to get attention .

Seven titles and more than 100 wins show me all the style and talent I need to see. If Hamilton were white, he'd be Nick Wilson's hero even with one title and ten wins but he obviously has a problem with these "uppity" black folks.

crying racism over any criticism of an athlete of color is an easy and lazy way to avoid the real issues - he is an incessant whiner when he doesn't get his way - and his lack of sportsmanship on track and subsequently on the podium at Silverstone was disgraceful - a real show of poor character.

Ade,you are the incessant whiner Hamilton the incessant winner.By the way who parked on Hamilton’s head and walked away, who brake tested Hamilton, who drove Hamilton massively off the track, who’s team whined on at Massi until he gave in and threw the rule book out the widow and then used their exact words to try to justify it to Toto. Who turned in on Hamilton at silverstone attempting to block him. I could go on but no point
Red Bull are cheats , the fia breaks its own rules and gives way to intimidation, Verstappen like his father is a bully and not a champion.

Blow - incessant winner? not in 2021. The Monza incident was as much Baby Lewie's fault for not leaving enough room for the faster Max to pass. And at Copse, Max turned into the corner on the racing line. It was the hamster who tried and failed to pull of a clumsy, ill-advised move and lost traction, plowing his front left into Max's right rear and sending Max off track and max speed and into the barriers (and the hospital, tho that didn't seem to dampen the poor sportsman's podium celebration one iota.) In terms of whining at Masi, see Toto's "Puhleeeeeeze don't give us a safety car!" Boo hoo (see Kyle Busch's favorite "you're crybabies" gesture). You say (without evidence) Red Bull are cheats, when both Mercedes and Ferrari have more history of bending if not breaking the rules. And like it or not Max is champion. So stuff it.

Also Blo, since you seem so damn ignorant of a sport you purport to follow, the "rules" were NOT "scrapped." Quite the contrary; as I understand it, the rules expressly gave the race director the discretion to make the call precisely as he did. You just don't like it because you are highly biased in favor of the whiny lil' bitch that is the subject of aforementioned Sainz' speculation because he lost, due to Mercedes' inability to get their way ALWAYS IN EVERY WAY ("in trouble"? Like he needs his therapist on the podium? Puh-leeze! Where was Angela with his binky?)

And lastly Blow, the "investigation" is only to appease the mighty, mighty 500 pound gorilla, it's whiney lil' bitch team boss, it's ever-so-emotionally-fragile #1 driver and the legions of devoted/deluded fans like you. I predict very little if anything will come of it, other than perhaps some much needed clarification of an absurdly complex rulebook.

Snooker is a serious sport FI is the game show. Potting the black has to many dangerous connotations. I’ll leave that to you and Ade. I’m off to polish my huge exhaust pipes. At least my mates Horny & Hammy both agree with me and each other on choice of best car ever.

Not long before your pre Xmas predictions are put to the test, hope you hav’nt got money on them.

New season, that's right. Start from scrap.

Lewis is an excellent driver, no doubt.
    Max as well.
Don't make it sound as if they’re Gods, though.
This year we could see another constructor or team rule F1.
The drivers depend on fast cars.
    That's F1.

  6. Blofly

Hey ho time will tell. It’s not long now before we see who the winners and losers are.
Will MB’s abandonment of the first half of 2021 to develop the 2022 car pay off? Will RB’s genius designer press all the right buttons? Will MV be able to break away from his fathers terrible influence and become at last a truly great champion? Are the rumours true, has Sir Lewis spent the winter with a Native American medicine man to mentally prepare for his biggest challenge yet? Can Max &Christian take the pressure?
Will Stroppys predictions be correct? Boy will he get some stick if thy’re Not!
    Can’t wait

    • shroppyfly

Jax, I think what you meant was, Baby is equal to schumacher in terms of wdcs, as for my pre xmas predictions, being a stickler for accuracy, i said at least halfway thru the 21 season Baby would retire, but there again accuracy has never been your strong point Jax . .

        • Adrian Roscher

in reverse order: 1) the silly comments on 2/12 above, to which Shroppy replied first and I dealt with in 3 subsequent responses; 2) both Baby Lewie and Toto warrant the full "whiny lil' bitch" (can't forget the whiny part; fyi, that phrase was coined several years back by American comedian Bill Maher in reference to cheat-o-lini, but it applies equally well to the principal Merc protagonists, but oddly NOT to poor Valtteri, who in many ways had the most legit reasons for complaining...) for their conduct this past season and in particular the last race and thereafter; 3) re "Baby", see 2 above; 4) apology accepted; and 5) it's "Roscher" - we are not French.

          • Blowfeld

Some are real sick reactions and I don't believe that they are posted by F1 fans. Lewis and Toto activated a destroying of F1 sportmansship

  9. Adrian Roscher

Blo - the borrowed (and credited, to be fair) insult is simply too apt for both in context of this topic/thread not to use, and no, "we" was traditional plural usage to connote the family line, which, given context, was kinda' implicit. Enjoy the Super Bowl!

      • Adrian Roscher

Seriously Blo, you want to go there? Comparing American food to what you Brits (I'm assuming you are by your incessant defense of the hamster baby) eat? That salty pig fat you call bacon, served with a burnt tomato half and baked beans with your runny eggs? And your national response to decades/centuries of a universally acknowledged crappiest national food culture is to foist Gordon fucking Ramsey upon the rest of the world? Good god, spare us - and you suggest our Super Bowl (ahem, which we here in Los Angeles just won, in our new $4.5 billion home stadium!) is some sort of eating vessel? Do you lot eat out of the World Cup? Guess you wouldn't know, not having won it in almost half a century! Bwaaaah!

    Adrian,
If your going to do a job, lets do it properly , you forgot the sausages made from eyeballs and testicles, and the greasy tinned mushrooms, and the blood made black pudding, there now its a proper insult to our cuisine...
As for not winning the world cup since 66, its almost like a badge of honour to us brits at how generally bad we are at football..
And good old Gordon, well im no fan of his but fairs fair hes made a load of dosh swearing his heart out, cant fault him for that..

But all in all a fair attempt at insulting the Brits, and we are a nation of self obsessed piss takers , so i can laugh at it, a good bit of advice was given to me on here by another poster about blojax, best way is just ignore him completely .

We Brits have our revenge using Jeremy Clarkson on the world ..lol

    • Adrian Roscher

Shrop - yes, and thanks for reminding me about those, tho' most sausages across most cultures share the hideous parts - and as a child of parents who had lived in Germany, I was forced to consume "Blutwuerst" (which is exactly what it sounds like) at an early age, so I think that part of my memory has built a strong defense around itself! I actually liked Clarkson, but I find Ramsey completely insufferable. And we here probably get far more of him on our screens (endless shows AND commercials) than you. I'd say Ramsey is your revenge, at least on us former colonies! But I trust you agree that by "going there" (re food) Blo blundered, yes?

I used to enjoy reading posts on this site. It was a site for racing fans who recognised the amazing talent of Sir Lewis but also enjoyed F1 in general. But now this site has sunk as low as it can with these child like and sometimes down right nasty, ill informed comments. I prefer the honest reasoning of Martyn Brundle for explanation of the failure of the FIA and I would suggest if you have not heard his opinion on this subject that you should keep your ill informed opinions to yourself. I am leaving this site today and will not return.

Chris - you're obviously one of those completely biased Hamster fans who don't see him for the spoilt man-child (who pouts when he doesn't get his way and zips about the pit lane on a child's toy while his dogsbody/Sancho Panza trots behind carrying his kit) that he is - so buh-bye and don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out!
