Oct.29 - Bernie Ecclestone is surprised about the success of Lewis Hamilton's political influence at Mercedes.

Earlier in 2020, the former F1 supremo was criticised by Hamilton, who said comments made by the 90-year-old about racism were "uneducated and ignorant".

"Don't think about what your skin colour is - think about what colour your mind is," Ecclestone hit back, amid Hamilton's advocacy for the controversial Black Lives Matter movement.

When asked about his exchange of barbs with Hamilton, Ecclestone told Bild newspaper on his 90th birthday on Wednesday: "I don't want to comment on that any further.

"But I wouldn't have thought that Mercedes would allow so much influence from Hamilton by painting the car black.

"I would rather have seen them hire more black people to support the movement," Ecclestone added.

"There are very, very many intelligent black people out there who should get a chance for higher jobs," he said.

What will Mercedes do after Hamilton leaves or retires? They've already molded the whole team around him and his wishes. It is sad - I miss Mercedes as racing elite, not what is has become under Hamilton's influence...

I 100% agree with Swede and Bill Strange. Hamilton has become far too big for his boots. Behaves like a Prima Donna, which he is NOT.!!!. Give Verstappen the same car and Max will beat him each and every time.

Hamilton is a great driver in the greatest car, so seems unbeatable. Put him in a car that is not the best by far, and only then would we see if he is a truly great driver. As it stands, almost any of the drivers in the field, given the Mercedes and Toto telling Bottas he has to let his partner past, would be world champion at least 4 times by now. Although Hamilton is a great driver, he is nowhere near the GREAT of drivers who actually had to battle against other great drivers to win the championship. Hamilton has had opposition in only 1 year, and he lost the championship to Rosberg. Other than that, there has been NO Competition. And I have been watching F1 for over 30 years.

Instead of complaining that Hamilton is driving and winning races you should ask the other drives to race faster and win more races. It is not Hamilton's responsibility to help make the race competitive.

it is not poor driving by others, it is that the cars their factories provide are not up to the super Mercedes level. This does not reflect on the driver, but the manufacturer. Look at a Ricardo for example. Poor car, yet he is usually a number of spots faster than his team mate. Not like Mercedes 1,2 because the car is far superior to anything on the track. Schumacher won with a Benetton against factory teams. A privateer team. You cannot compare Hamilton to the other drivers, but, he is a great driver. Just not the greatest. Mercedes is the greatest.
