Nico Rosberg insisted he was only interested in himself at the Belgian Grand Prix and was not following the extraordinary performance of his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The German eased to his sixth victory of the season, closing the gap on Hamilton in the championship.

Hamilton started last after a series of engine penalties but clawed his way back up to third after a series of incidents further up the field moved a number of rivals out of his way.

And Rosberg admits he was surprised at the end of the race when he discovered the result.

“That's not what I'm focusing on. I came here wanting to win," he said.

"The opposition was unusually close this weekend, not eventually in the race, but up to that they were very close.

"I'm just very happy, a perfect weekend for me.

"We did great selecting the right tyres. We were the only ones who really got it nailed with the tyre choice. Our race, the medium, was the right tyre. It worked out really well."
