Red Bull team boss Christian Horner admits that he thought Daniel Ricciardo would go on and claim victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Aussie was flying in the latter stages on soft tyres as he hunted down Nico Rosberg in second place with Sebastian Vettel only a few seconds up the road.

Ricciardo eventually collided with Rosberg with a handful of laps to go, puncturing the Mercedes drivers’ rear tyre.

He slumped behind his teammate Daniil Kvyat, but went on to finish third.

Horner said: "It felt a little bit like deja vu from last year [when Ricciardo's won]. We strategically made the call at the first stop to put the hard tyre on, as we felt our only possibilities would be in the later part of the race if there was a safety car.

"And sure enough, we had that set of tyres left. The safety car came out and it teed it up beautifully."

Vettel went on to claim his second win of the campaign.
