Jul.24 - The Italian press has slammed Sebastian Vettel for throwing away the win at Hockenheim.

The German driver was on the way to victory at his home circuit before sliding his Ferrari into the barrier in slippery conditions.

"That was a dark moment in his career," said 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg.

"He had a home win and the chance to extend his championship lead on Hamilton, and he threw it all away."

The passionate Italian media was just as hard on Vettel.

"His mistake is devastating and could be why Ferrari loses the world championship," La Gazzetta dello Sport declared.

La Stampa added: "The German has made at least four mistakes in eleven races.

"The talent of the world champion is not questioned, but his exaggerated zest is hurting Ferrari's season."

Corriere della Sera praised Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton's "masterpiece of assertiveness and concentration" in racing from the back to win and re-take the title lead.

"The behaviour of the two star drivers makes the difference," it added.

However, Vettel was defended from a surprising quarter, with Max Verstappen saying the German's mistake "could have happened to any of us" in the conditions.

"I don't need pity," Vettel declared. "It was my fault.

"When everything goes well you are cheered, and if you make mistakes you are criticised. So I don't care much about what people say. I have to be at peace with myself."

Not true at all, italians are forgiving Seb, but are mad at this F1 and FIA. Seb was in a bad situation, Soft tires are harder to drive while on half wet compared to Ultrasoft (2 steps harder). But Hamilton... ok did a good race ok, but no challenge by the others... red carpet for him. Had luck, rain in the moment he was in a better tyre situation than opponents, and was helped... rules are rules, they say it's forbidden to cut, not "forbidden except in case". This is what's wrong with this F1... safety car deployed when it's too late, penalties and no penalties with no sense and so on. Seb puts everything he can, sometimes even more, and this is why he commits some mistakes. But he has no helps by others and FIA, Hamilton can't say the same.

You must be kidding right? No help from safety car or VSC for Seb? I don't think we are watching the same season. If I remember there was a race won by seb only because of a VSC. Sometimes things even out over a season. I'm a Hamilton fan but I can still respect the talent of Seb Vettel. There is to much bashing from fan base to fan base. Seb fans bash Ham fans and vice versa. Lets all respect their talents and enjoy the season. If you want to watch negative crap watch the news.

Like any racing driver, it is that same ability to push the limits that gets them wins, so it is only expected that if that fine line is crossed it could mean tears. It was a unfortunate mistake and I'm a firm believer that Ferrari's biggest problem is their press. To question if this mistake may have cost Ferrari the world championship is dumb. Without Seb and his ability to push in that seat, Ferrari and world championship would not have been in the same sentence this year.

So, right Angelo, FIA and announcers have promoted Hamilton for a few years now over most other drivers. They site all is wins, but most of the credit has to go to Mercedes. Hamilton has had no real team mate competition except Rosberg.

The difference between Vettel and Hamilton reflected in German grand prix.Hamilton would win more races if he were in 2018 Ferrari F1 car than Vettel, no doubt about that. Hamilton is no match to any driver in the grid now...
