In a significant move for the future of the BWT Alpine F1 Team, Jack Doohan has been promoted to a full-time race seat for the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. This announcement, made on August 23, 2024, marks a pivotal moment not only for the team but also for Doohan, who becomes the first graduate of the Alpine Academy to secure a race seat with the French outfit.

The Rise of Jack Doohan

The 21-year-old Australian, son of the legendary five-time 500cc motorcycling world champion Mick Doohan, has been on a meteoric rise in the world of motorsport. After a successful junior career, which saw him finish as runner-up in the 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship and third in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship, Doohan joined Alpine as a Reserve Driver in 2024. His performance during this time has been nothing short of impressive, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts through his work in the driver-in-loop simulator.

Doohan's credentials in the junior categories are strong, with six wins in Formula 2, five pole positions, and a historic performance at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, where he became the first driver in the series' history to secure pole position, win the race, record the fastest lap, and lead every lap of a Feature Race. This kind of dominance showcases the raw talent that Alpine is betting on as they aim to climb the ranks in Formula 1.

A Strategic Driver Line-Up

With Doohan stepping up, Alpine’s driver line-up for 2025 will feature a blend of youthful energy and seasoned experience. The Australian will partner with Pierre Gasly, who remains with the team, providing a stable foundation upon which Alpine can build its future ambitions. Gasly, with his wealth of experience and race-winning pedigree, is expected to be a guiding force for Doohan as he transitions to the highest level of motorsport.

Oliver Oakes, Alpine’s Team Principal, expressed his excitement about the promotion: “We are very excited to promote Jack into the race seat from next season. Jack will become the first driver to graduate from the Alpine Academy into a race driver position with the team, so that is exceptionally pleasing for the team and its young driver pathway.” Oakes' confidence in Doohan's abilities is clear, as he highlights the Australian’s hard work and commitment behind the scenes.

Preparing for 2025

For the remainder of the 2024 season, Doohan will continue his duties as Alpine’s Reserve Driver. He will take part in regular Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) events in the A522 Formula 1 car, ensuring he remains sharp and ready for his full-time debut next year. This period will be crucial for Doohan as he continues to absorb information and fine-tune his skills, both on the track and in the simulator.

Doohan himself is thrilled about the opportunity, stating, “I am so happy to secure promotion into a full-time race seat in 2025 with BWT Alpine F1 Team. It’s exceptionally satisfying to be the first graduate of the Alpine Academy to be in a race seat with the team, and I’m extremely thankful to those who supported me along the way to make this a reality.”

As was clear since Sainz's Williams move announcement, & ironically, earlier than Antonelli's formal announcement, which is due for next week.

Jack is in a fairly unique position. Not many have such a famous mentor and father, with five world championships to his credit.
Sure, Mick raced motor cycles and not F1, however, he can certainly give Jack great mental strength and commitment to achieve. I hope Alpine can provide a car to give Jack the chance he deserves.

Who is his Manager, MW?, i hope he does well, MW was 26yr when he started in f1, my only visual comment is both OP and JD look like late teenagers, maybe its because im older ( the doors open....), OP seems not to be scared in the way he races, i hope JD is the same, i think MW has schooled OP well, i hope the same goes for JD , or his team mate will eat him alive.

I'm very curious who will replace Pérez next season... Would be great if Lawson will get in. He certainly proofed himself last season replacing Dric.

I really hope I am wrong, but I believe that Checko's Mexican sponsorship money will keep him in the seat at least until the end of the 2025 season.
It would be great to see some new young drivers given the opportunity to display their racing skills. Oscar has proven to be a great talent. We need more of them! Bring in Lawson!
