Jordan believes Ecclestone should retire
Former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan reckons that Bernie Ecclestone should think about retiring.
The 84-year-old ruler has come in for criticism over his handling of the smaller teams financial complaints, and Jordan thinks the time has come for him to evaluate his position.
He told the Daily Mail: “Bernie says one thing to your paper, another thing to a different paper, and another thing to me. It is out of control. Nobody knows whether he means what he says or even knows what he is saying.
“One moment he said he wanted to help the smaller teams out of their financial trouble; then the next moment that he didn’t care about them. He said they had come to him with begging bowls.
“And last week he said he did not want to get the younger generation interested in F1. Perhaps if he doesn’t want them or doesn’t understand social media, he should hand over to someone who does.”
Jordan is a big admirer of the work Ecclestone has done but he thinks the sport needs a younger hand at the helm.
Ecclestone has had a turbulent year after a personal court case, and a lot of criticism of the sport’s new regulations which have seen costs spiral out of control.
Caterham and Marussia entered administration last month and the sport’s other smaller teams say they are also in a financial crisis and don’t feel fully supported from the powers above.
Jordan summarised his thoughts by saying: “Retirement comes to everybody and I believe it is time for Bernie to consider whether he should retire.”
