Max Verstappen's father does not think Ferrari made a "calculation error" with the fuel load aboard Charles Leclerc's car in Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari escaped with a EUR 50,000 fine for under-declaring to the FIA the amount of fuel that was aboard Leclerc's car for the race start.

Earlier, Max Verstappen accused Ferrari of "cheating" in 2019 with its power unit.

And now his father and co-manager Jos has told Dutch commentator Olav Mol on Ziggo Sport: "Olav, you know it wasn't a calculation error.

"I am not going to talk too much about it, because it is a very dangerous subject in Formula 1. I don't want to burn my fingers on it.

"But next season the rules must be tightened," Verstappen snr added.

  1. ok then

I don't get why anyone would think they're cheating, the car met the minimum / maximum fuel limits.
Am I missing something or is it as I think it is, a storm in teacup (or fuel tank in this case).

If they declare less than they race, the extra non-counted fuel could be used in some way to help give extra horsepower. Considering the recent technical bulletins that have been put out about burning extra fuel/oil this seems like a huge deal.

Evidently it's not what you or I think. That's a damn expensive"teapot", €50,000! That's caught cheating again, twice this season! They, Ferrari, was awfully fast after summer break, until they were caught cheating that time as too! CLARIFICATION of fuel metering system!??? (CHEATING)

Maybe the rest of the teams need to go, enmase to the FIA and demand they quit favoring Ferrari or they will form a new governing body and the Italians can race themselves! They can also hire some permanent (nonbiased, blind, bribed or encompitent) full-time stewards.

Cliff, you're arguing with yourself. Full time stewards would have favored Ferrari in Canada. And, it is not the FIA who favors Ferrari, it is the F1 commercial rights holder. The FIA actually has a deep disdain for EVERYBODY. Sorry about the cap's...can't underline.

I don't know how old is really old, but I'm 75yrs old. I started watching racing at about eight or nine yrs old. Since we lived in Indianapolis Ind. We started going to the first week end of qualifying about 1952 or 53. My father loved most sports, but especially horse racing, Kentucky derby and the Indianapolis 500. Everybody thought the officials showed favouritism to certain teams at the old "brickyard". My dad said
"cowpies". Only losers complain. Winners never complain! I remember watching J.M. Fangio, trying to qualify a maroon Maserati, about 1953 or 54. They thought "the Americans", didn't like foreigners. NOT true. He was world renowned . TO THE POINT! The Indy series has fulltime "stewards", and there isn't a lot of complaints about favouritism. R Penski wins more because he invest more, and he despises "cheaters", or cheating!
The stewards could and should be more consistent with their rulings. I also want to know, who got points levied against their drivers (racing) licence, this season and how many? For what infraction and what race?

Everyone talks about everyone else but Mercedes. Nobody talks about Hamilton opening up is car's horsepower whenever he wants it. Where does he get it from I wonder? The engine of course but how can that be if he's already in the car racing? Bottas is also very fast but not because he's a faster driver. And no one investigates the Mercedes issue.........I wonder why. To me, so far, everybody tries to cheat without anyone noticing it. It's about time that the FIA changes the rules so that every team gets a fair share to anticipate winning. So far, the rest of the field stays the rest of the field and it's not good racing. It's even boring to watch. I hope next year will be better or I'm out period. I, for one, doesn't want to see Hamilton at Ferrari. Let's wait for next year.
